Circular wonder: The Library of Congress in Washington DC was founded in 1800

"Humankind should keep their feet grounded where there is physical ground but learn to fly where there is imagination."
CityVP Manjit

I asked readers to consider sharing their thoughts about why write on social media. The following response is written by @CityVP Manjit.

"When I walk into a public library I feel like I have the whole world on the tip of my finger and all I need is the will to touch that world and become one with it. My time sense then becomes one where I lose the sense of time and in this I feel most alive. Then my consciousness returns to the unconscious, because in a library it is rare to find another who walks into with wonder, the majority walk into a public library with an objective, which is to take out a book or books. Opening a book opens another world of wonder unless we wish to consume knowledge, and consumption of knowledge makes for a world obese in ideas rather than free in flow.
When I look at the image to this buzz of all the social media symbols they begin to look like the bars of a prison and yet the key to this prison is not on the other side where freedom is but within me and so I am not seeing posts and I am not seeing in times, in this very moment I see wonder again because for me this is a virtual public library combined with learning laboratory. For sure when I leave the public library or the virtual one here I return to the demands of the world and the realities of the flesh.
Humankind should keep their feet grounded where there is physical ground but learn to fly where there is imagination. If we do too much of the former we remain buried by the demands that are very real demands and if we do too much of the latter we can lose our minds and get lost in our own flow - so flow as Mihaly said is not just a sense of wonder, it must be held in balance with the supply and demand that is the functionings of the world. What I write and what I don't write is either flow or presence - I can't subscribe others to do this because this is their choice. Our flow can create our own prison or it can create our own freedom."CityVP Manjit

Here is another example of our being like minded . I, too, am the proud owner of many an international library card. Yes the library(ies) here are very rich and diverse. Thanks for your comment.

Dear Deb, the times when I feel most connected is ironically with lurkers. I not only sense them but sometimes I get a glimpse of them. Yesterday a woman from Venezuela https://www.bebee.com/bee/annick-betancourt-0bFkgc who was not following anyone but had one follower checked out my profile, that simple act can evoke a curiosity in me. It was enough for me to determine that she is starting her career life out in municipal and urban/architect areas and she works in the Capital District of Caracas. This leads me to see a tourist view https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZCky7_3nK0E while mindful that Venezuela has deep economic problems outlined by a couple of other bees.. Then there is someone who I follow called Javier Benitez Toyos and I marvel at his paintings https://www.bebee.com/bee/javier-benitez-toyos?t=posts while he makes his living as a customer service representative, and I see humility in that man but even more as talent. Both Annick and Javier are quiet people getting on with their business, and for a brief moment we are ships that pass each other on the ocean. There is a beauty in that which I cannot describe but I do appreciate.

First of all thank you Sara the picture from the Daily Mail encapsulates this totally. What I would like to dedicate this page to is the institution of the public library and my hope is that people on BeBee recognize that meatspace of public libraries is the Internet where we see people and this is not an institution which is redundant because of the virtual space, but preceded the virtual space. Where I live the municipal government has provided us with a rich network of libraries, but across the world libraries are facing greater challenges. The appeal from New York is just an example https://www.nypl.org/support From an Isreal point of view - I found a rich article about "Libraries and Librarianship in Israel" written by Snunith Shoham and while few people are going to read a 51 page PDF it contains enough value simply by browsing through to reveal the complexity, history and value of libraries in all the forms they take. http://www.ifla.org/files/assets/hq/publications/ifla-journal/archive/jour2603.pdf Her LinkedIn page is at https://il.linkedin.com/in/snunith-shoham-4063a138 When we view this in a larger dimension I call this viewing the greater ecology. This same greater ecology is what I am trying to get my college club members to see but it is not a natural shift, people are so inundated with existing flows of information that they are occupied by it - and in this I view the word OCCUPATION. We cannot occupy ourselves if we want to see life in those spaces i.e. the classic difference between making a living and making a life. Now we can easily transpose this and say we can do both, but as the quote in the following article says, there is a great difference between DOINGNESS and BEINGNESS and if BeBee is the latter then what a great step forward that will be. I pray that it bee. http://www.lifehack.org/articles/work/why-you-should-making-life-instead-making-living-2.html
