Imagine!
It is a natural fit for me to be on beBee as I am a champion of metaphors and their use. The metaphor of us as Bees, our groups as Hives, our sharing as Buzzes and our writing as Honey, has inspired me to write my first original post on beBee.
Imagine!
I say there are three aspects of ourselves that makes up our fabric; we are sensory beings, we are conscious beings and we are creative beings.
In this post I would like to focus on a skill that crosses all three areas; our ability to imagine.
Imaging, the ability to recreate sensory impressions and feelings in our minds in the absence of outside stimuli, is the most important thinking skill we acquire for creativity.
Besides communicating what’s real, through the creative skill of imaging we can alter, combine, synthesize and otherwise manipulate sensory images to form images and ideas of things never perceived in reality.
The language of imagination is metaphor; inspiration takes flight is an example. The metaphor is "out there" to make it possible for us to sense and experience things in an unexpected way. We use metaphors all the time. Being aware of their use and applying this language in a stimulating and meaningful way, makes the verbal expression of the non-verbal sensory experience possible.
The metaphor of the Bee
“The bees place in our world is important beyond our understanding. The small little insect that works so tirelessly and quietly around us certainly is one of the reasons, if not a main reason, for the possibility of human development on earth. Without them, the development of life on earth, as we know it now, would have been much different and the conditions for human development may not have existed.”
The metaphor of the Hive
“The conditions we are talking about here are the appearance of the flower bearing plants and pollinators, with the bees, being the crown jewel of the pollinators. The bees, the flowers, human beings and everything that developed alongside humans are all an interconnected series of events over an enormous amount of time.” (Emphasis is mine.)
This describes the potential of the community of beBee and our role or engagement within this community. Interconnection is the life giving force to any community; the community reflects its members by the quality of the engagement.
"Aerodynamically, the bumble bee shouldn't be able to fly, but the bumble bee doesn't know it so it goes on flying anyway."
- Mary Kay Ash
I am looking forward to my flight with all of you.
