Welcome to Wednesday Word(s) of the Week at beBee: WWW.beBee
This week is turning out to be a week with a purpose as I have written on the “sense of purpose” and an “out of the comment box” buzz related to Ali Anani’s buzz related to purpose.
What is impressive about the word purpose is that both a person can have a purpose, or more than one, and a “thing” like art;
The purpose of art is washing the dust of daily life off our souls. - Pablo Picasso,
or education;
Education's purpose is to replace an empty mind with an open one. - Malcolm Forbes,or happiness;
Many persons have a wrong idea of what constitutes true happiness. It is not attained through self-gratification but through fidelity to a worthy purpose. - Helen Keller,and life;
As far as we can discern, the sole purpose of human existence is to kindle a light in the darkness of mere being. - Carl Jung
To complicate matters, purpose can have both reason and intention. Then as I was attempting to pull it all together, I discover a quote by Immanuel Kant that refers to our ability to act morally without any connection to purpose:
A categorical imperative would be one which represented an action as objectively necessary in itself, without reference to any other purpose.
No wonder finding our purpose is a complex journey, but definitely worth the effort.

"If we inspect all the quotes that agree to the necessity of having a purpose in life we find a common thread among them. This is to be larger than ourselves and one that that effect on a much larger scale than us or our local communities." Well said Ali Anani. Thank you.
